Cup of Coffee Extra: Dodgers Win The Series
The Dodgers win it all!
Dodgers 5, Blue Jays 4: It never felt like the Los Angeles Dodgers had a better chance to win this World Series than the Blue Jays did until the very moment they won it. Indeed, if it's possible to steal a World Series, the Los Angels Dodgers just stole a World Series.
Down 3-2 and they came back to win Games Six and Seven on the road. Down 4-2 in the eighth inning of Game Seven and Max Muncy homered. Down 4-3 in the ninth inning and Miguel Rojas homered. Tied at four in the 11th and Will Smith homered to give Los Angeles its first lead of the game.
On Friday night after Game Six manager Dave Roberts said every pitcher was available for the Dodgers in Game Seven except Yoshinobu Yamamoto. So of course he called Yamamoto in to pitch the final two and two-thirds innings. All Yamamoto did was shut the Jays out and, in the process, he became the first pitcher to win three games in a single World Series since Randy Johnson did it in 2001. He was, quite obviously, and quite deservedly, named World Series MVP.
The Dodgers are back-to-back World Series champs. It's the franchise's ninth World Series title in its history. It's a crushing, heart-rendering loss for the Blue Jays.
But oh my god, was it a great Game Seven. And what a great postseason.
And now into the winter we go.
